Ginkgo Petrified Forest/Wanapum Recreation Area
Considered one of the most diverse fossil forests in North America, Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park is famous for its rare specimens of petrified Ginkgo tree discovered there in 1932. Take in the big skies, Columbia River views and outdoor exhibits of petrified wood. Look for evidence of Ice Age floods carved into the walls of the Columbia River Gorge. Then step inside the Ginkgo Petrified Forest Interpretive Center.

Check out recreation sites with grassy areas, great beaches, walking and biking trails, and play equipment for a fun family afternoon. There are several boat launches up and down the river where you can launch your watercraft for free. Two great centers for education - the Grant PUD Visitor Center and the Wanapum Heritage Center.

Desert Aire Golf Course
Winding through the sand and sage of the natural, central Washington desert, along the Columbia River is a beautifully groomed, 18-hole golf course known as Desert Aire. Ranked as one of the highest rated public courses in the region, the front nine opened in 1972, followed nineteen years later with the completion of the back nine in 1993. Desert Aire is the recipient of accolades from Golf Digest, Northwest Golfer Magazine, Washington Golf Guide, and the Central Washington PGA.
Colockum Ridge Golf Course
Colockum Ridge 18 hole golf course is the Columbia Basin’s premier destination for value – priced public golf. Wild Horse Monument
The sculpture was designed and created by Chewelah sculptor David Govedare. He envisioned a 36-foot tall woven basket made of steel, tipped up by Grandfather (a symbol of the Great Spirit), to allow the 18 horses within to run free. The 15 life-size galloping horses that were installed are a beautiful sight, and as a whole is best seen from a distance. If you choose to take the short hike to the hilltop to see the individual horses, you’ll be rewarded with a nice view of the Columbia River and surroundings.
